Issues in South Korean Security, Education and Cultural Industries Fishbowl Discussions
This is your final unit of study and consideration. The focus is on contemporary issues within East Asia. There are many of great importance, but for the sake of time we are limiting our focus to only three. They are:
South Korean security vis-a-vis North Korea from the perspective of three different policies; Kim Dae Jung, Lee Myung Bak, and Park Gun Hye.
Challenges in education facing China, Japan and South Korea.
Cultural industries of China, Japan and South Korea.
These three were selected because for certain they have either been in the news as of recent, or touch the lives of everyone in our immediate community at KIS.
Everyone in the class will participate in this. The point is that each discussion will last only 20 minutes maximum. Thus, it could be shorter, but certainly not longer. The dates for the discussion are to begin on the Friday and then will continue on for the next three classes. Our final class will be directed to a FINAL JEOPARDY GAME.
MAJOR POINTS TO CONSIDER
Class time is to be used for researching and discussing.
Research is to be done individually, but do share your sources with your immediate group. (SEE BLOCK B in the left margin for your group).
Groups discuss as ODDS and then as EVENS. Each will be evaluated as per how they were done before. Be honest in your evaluations. We are looking at how well each student participates in the discussion and is able to include others etc. (See the handout for this below)
Dates are:
Security issues - Friday
Education & 1/2 of Cultural Industries - Tuesday
Complete discussions & FINAL JEOPARDY - Thursday.
GRADING
As per rubric used below.
Use of class time and research done. (See handout below)
